GoboVault Manual

Everything you need to know to install the Blender add-on, manage your GoboVault account, and instantly elevate your lighting.

1. Installation

Installing the GoboVault Blender add-on takes just a few clicks. The add-on is compatible with Blender 3.0 and above.

  1. Download the latest gobovault.zip release from the Downloads page.
  2. Open Blender and navigate to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons.
  3. Click Install... in the top right corner.
  4. Select the downloaded gobovault.zip file and click Install Add-on.
  5. Check the box next to Lighting: GoboVault to enable it.

2. Authentication

To access your Pro library and synced favorites directly inside Blender, you need to securely link your account.

Step 1: Click Login

In Blender, open the 3D Viewport sidebar (press N) and go to the GoboVault tab. Click Login. This will automatically open a secure browser window to our website.

Step 2: Authorize

Enter your email to receive a magic link, or sign in with your provider. Once authenticated, the site will automatically redirect back to Blender and log you in instantly!

3. Using GoboVault

GoboVault automatically handles node setups. It works perfectly with both Cycles and Eevee rendering engines.

  • Add a Gobo: Select any Light object (Spot lights work best) or Camera in your scene, browse the GoboVault library in the N-panel, and click a thumbnail to apply it.
  • Adjust Scale & Blur: Once applied, you can use the sliders in the GoboVault panel to control the scale and blur (focus) of the projected texture without opening the Shader Editor.
  • Favorites: Click the heart icon on any gobo to save it to your Favorites. This syncs to the cloud and is available across all your devices and the web dashboard.

4. Account & Settings

You can manage your subscription, view your download history, and update your email address from your Web Dashboard.

If you're using the Free tier, you have access to a curated selection of 25 gobos. Upgrading to Pro unlocks all 364+ assets, up to 4K resolution (AI upscaled) downloads, and full cloud synchronization.

5. Troubleshooting

Why are my gobos downloading slowly or failing?
Ensure you have an active internet connection. We recently upgraded our CDN delivery system to bypass proxy limitations, so downloads should be lightning fast. If you're using an older version of the addon, please download the latest update.
The Blender add-on says "Authentication Failed" or hangs
Blender opens a secure local port (127.0.0.1:7173) to receive the login token from your browser. If this port is blocked by your firewall or occupied by another application, the login will fail. Please ensure your firewall allows local loopback connections for Blender.
The thumbnails in Blender are grayed out or not loading
The library requires internet access to fetch thumbnails dynamically. Check your firewall settings to ensure Blender is allowed to make outgoing HTTPS requests to our ImageKit CDN.
